1. BOOGIE BOARDERS EATEN ALIVE AT NEWPORT BEACH
This friday I was in L.A. for a new project and had a chance to visit Newport beach and watch some serious boogie boarders and surfers get eaten alive by some gnarly sets of waves at what they call the “wedge”. They were pretty big and breaking on the beach . . . it was very fun to watch, and I managed to catch one really cool wipeout, or intentional backflip – you decide!

2. GOLF AT SHERWOOD COUNTRY CLUB
Yes, I played a game at sherwood country club – where, as you can see by the swanky locker room door with his name on it, Wayne Gretzky’s a member. It was a boiling hot day, and the course was amazing, but the real treatment was the Locker room. Let’s just say it was nothing like the YMCA’s – closer to the Vail SonnenAlp’s Spa! Look where I landed a VOLTAGE ball! Send more work, we’ll send more golfballs!!
3. ERIC FORSYTH ROCKS THE SOILED DOVE and KBCO! Eric Forsyth – a local musician who VOLTAGE designed a CD for – played the Soiled Dove last weekend opening for Ryan Shupe and The Rubber Band. Eric put on a killer performance and impressed everyone present with his fresh sounds and finger kung-fu on the guitar. It was a great performance – way to go Eric, and he’s now on the KBCO new artists page. The more you listen, the more his ranking climbs equaling airtime on KBCO. Here’s a clip of the first song of his set FUSE. With a couple cameos by the waitress( sorry ) Ryan Shupe was also excellent, check out some videos of them at the VOLTAGE Youtube page!
4. VOTE FOR VOLTAGE!
Mountain Dew has taken their new beverage to the people with their DEWMOCRACY campaign. What’s great is they’ve picked a great name for one of the new candidates. VOLTAGE! It actually doesn’t taste that great to me . . . as my wife bought me a case and I tried a couple, and the packaging is typical soft drink cheesy, but the site is very cool – let’s you create your own campaigns for the flavor you like, building videos, etc. Because of the name we’re getting the vote out!!
5. COMMON THREADZ ON JOSHSPEAR.COM
Our own boulder county “cool-hunter” Josh Spear featured Common Threadz! A non-profit that donates a school uniform to children in need for every T-shirt it sells, and of which VOLTAGE designed the logo and other marketing pieces. Check it out here.
Welcome Steven Cook to the VOLTAGE empire. Just four days ago, Steven was tromping around the beaches of Maceio Brazil as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Days after his returned to american soil we have put him to work, and he’s been a great addition to the VOLTAGE studio. A man of many skills and superb organization! Seja bem-vindo brasiliero!
We’re learning all kinds of good stuff from our in-house Brasiliero, ie. ORKUT is the facebook of brasil. Take a look – www.orkut.com
The Friday Five are five cool things we feel are worth posting this week. Subscribe to the five – if you find it of any value whatsoever . . . This Friday’s Five is mostly about music, and a little summer sport! Check it Out.
1. WEEZER’S RED ALBUM HIT ITUNES Weezer delivered. Yes, the Red Album’s true to their Arena Rocking Beats and High Voltage Guitars! The albums got some pretty true-to-weezer tunes, and worth the download. You gotta like the variation on a Shaker Hymn called the Greatest Man that ever lived – no actually to quote them : “You don’t like it, you love it!”
2. TIME TO MASTER THE CROQUET MALLETS
Yes, in planning a game of croquet and brushing up on my skills and rules, I came across this informative video from the United States Croquet Association. The Croquet Association has some gripping videos to lure you into the “sport”! Take a look here, and if you feel like you want to dig a little deeper – there is a longer video which should not be missed.
3. DCFC – NARROW STAIRS
After hearing so much about death cab for cuties new album, and it’s success on the charts, and not having really listened to them for awhile, we got Narrow Stairs, and it is really good. A nice album for the studio / early morning design sessions.
4. LOOKOUT FOR THE WOMBATS
Another friendly find this week was the FREE single at itunes by the Wombats! Very arctic monkeyish, and very catchy tune called “Let’s Dance to Joy Division”. If you’re at all a Joy Division fan you’ll like this tune – download it today while it’s still available. If you’re not a huge Joy Division fan this might put the single in perspective.

Our first VOLTAGE giveaway has been so popular we’ve re-issued the Black Bolt Golf Balls and Soaring Eagle with Lightning Wings logo golf balls! (that’s the short description of our logo – ask me later for the long version) We’ve given all the first batch away – I guess they really do perform on the links. Let us know if you’ve noticed signifigant performance in your game with these VOLTAGE balls! The only feedback we have had is that most opponents are extremely intimated by the black ball! Send more work, and we’ll send more golfballs.
Common Threadz, a VOLTAGE client, was spotted on the scene at the MTV Style Lounge in Beverly Hills last week. As you can see by the photos many famous people stood by the logo we designed, including the likes of Christina Milian, Joel Moore, Vanessa Branch, Shannon Elizabeth, Matt Sorum, and Jesse Metcalf. VOLTAGE designed the Common Threadz logo, marketing collateral, and are now working on some tees! Common Threadz is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is working to provide orphans and vulnerable children in developing nations with the chance of an education and social acceptance by giving them the school uniforms that they can not afford. For each Common Threadz tee sold, a school uniform is donated. VOLTAGE Advertising and Design is the creative shop of Eric Fowles, an award winning graphic designer operating in Louisville, CO.
